Digital fabrication

Digital fabrication has opened up new opportunities for making. It has enabled designers to realise their concepts without the previous barriers of manufacturing setup costs and high volume orders, and this technology and infrastructure is being used to challenge established industries.

In this initial series Opendesk explore digital fabrication through Computer Numeric Control (CNC) milling - a now very widespread technology and the basis of the Opendesk distributed manufacturing model. These introductory articles are for those who are new to the process, materials and finishing techniques commonly being used, and the specific requirements of designing for CNC manufacture.
